In every newsletter we'd like to introduce someone who is involved with MEA. Today, Berend Jak is introducing himself, member of the first hour, and as of now officially 'kwartiermaker' for MEA! |
| |

Berend Jak

"Sometimes (often) I get tied up with myself when I hear what's happening to people, animals, and the planet. A train of thought filled with despair and disbelief arises, paired with an emotional avalanche of powerlessness and a feeling of being lost. This shows me how much love and care I have within me for everything that lives. This is the source I want to connect to over and over again, and from where I want to act.
As 'Kwartiermaker' at Mother Earth Agency I am working to offer tools: ways to sit with the pain, honour it communally, and value it instead of looking away. We believe that, by doing this, a fresh creative energy emerges within us, from which a new togetherness can arise. MEA can untangle the knot within me (us), so that we may re-enter the world with non-violence as a starting point." |

Terugblik: MEA Oogstfestival
|
| |
|
Johannes |

Looking back: MEA Harvest Festival
|
| |
|
On October 24, 2025, the time had come: MEA grew its first festival from the fertile soil! The Harvest Festival in Vogelfrei, Utrecht. We worked hard to make it happen and drew on all the different skills within our collective: organization, logistics, production, artistry—it was a joint collaboration. The evening was divided into the four phases of the Active Hope spiral: gratitude, honoring our pain, seeing with new eyes, and moving forward/celebration. These phases were highlighted with art, music performances, and workshops. |
| |
|
With about 40 people around one table, the festival was opened. A colourful and abundant potluck was shared and appreciated together – special! And it continued: whether it was an activist short film by Theo, connective communication by Berend, a mourning ritual by Tet, or a dance workshop by Johannes, the festival managed to confront, stimulate, and connect. We ended the evening with a singing circle led by Tamar and an eclectic and fiery DJ set (with live music) by Vincent. The room was filled with a vibrant energy, and we danced until the last drop of cold autumn air had disappeared from the room. The entire evening felt like a journey in which the group continued to open up towards each other and at the same time grew closer together. A feeling of hope, connection, and inspiration flowed through the room and the people; a valuable gift to take home and share with others. For MEA, too, this event was a nourishing source; a wave of warm energy, motivation, and gratitude poured through us. It was clear: this is not the last time!
So stay tuned—there's more to come! Johannes |
